I can't think of a better first bike for anyone.
I'm 255lb and the bike moves me just fine. It's not 0-60 in 3secs., but I don't want that. If I did I would have gotten a different bike. Actually, I would be a different person.
I'm a weekend rider and tend to keep to backroads. The bike is new, affordable, low maintenance and hopefully highly reliable(not much to go wrong) == fun. What more could anyone want (in a machine).
I don't believe that you will ever hear that it a piece of engineering marvel. Save that for the bikes in the $10-15k range.
